The basic axiom of astrology is that the microcosm and macrocosm mirror each other and are also synchronized in their cycles and rhythms. You are a little Solar System in much the same way as every cell in your body is a little replica of you.
Astrology is a vast and profound subject, and it requires several years of study and application to become proficient in it. An experienced and capable astrologer can use your natal chart as a type of x-ray of your psyche and thereby gain insight into the primal causes of your life-patterns. This information, if effectively and creatively communicated, can be therapeutically enlightening and can help a person to live more consciously and responsibly.
Astrological life cycles can help us to get a more objective perspective on where we are in our personal developmental journey. Gaining insight into the nature of our current situation can enable us to discern more precisely what the significance of a particular phase or situation in our life is all about- what it's teaching us and how we can make the best use of it.
Although modern psychology does not officially endorse astrology, many modern astrologers see their work as very similar to that of a counseling psychologist. Some of psychology's great lights, such as Carl Jung, explored astrology and acknowledged it as an ancient form of psychology, which is no less effective now than it was in the past.
The multi-dimensional language of astrology can assist us in tracing the links between spiritual, psychological and physical conditions, and as such can compliment other therapeutic modalities.
